Terms of Service

Welcome to Luar Cafe, a place to read, write, and share stories. These terms are short on purpose, so you can actually read them.

References to "the site", "the platform", "us", or "we" refer to Luar Cafe. References to "users" or "authors" refer specifically to those using the site.

The basics

• Post only what you have the legal right to post.
• Content you read on the site is owned by its authors, who retain the rights to their own works unless stated otherwise on the work itself.
• Bots, scrapers, AI agents, and automated tools are not allowed to take or copy content of any kind from the platform. The sole exception is the explicitly allowed indexing defined in /robots.txt, for use only by search engines who use the content only to serve search results.
• We will never show you ads, embed tracking scripts, or sell your data.
• Be kind to your fellow authors and readers.
• This site is not directed at children.

Your account

• You sign in with your email address, so keep it current. It's how you get back in to your account. Your email address is always private.
• Your username and display name are public. We encourage you not to use your full real name or any other personally identifiable information.
• You are responsible for the activity on your account.

Your content

• Everything you post is yours. We claim no ownership of or rights to anything you submit: comments, avatars, usernames, author pseudonyms, or works.
• You give us only the permission we need to run the site: storing your content and displaying it to the people you've chosen to share it with. Note that for the most part this means publicly to all visitors of the site.

For authors

The rights to your works are yours to reserve or share how you choose. We claim only the permission to host and distribute it, until such time that you choose to remove it. See the Author Terms for more information.

Rules and moderation

• You may not use Luar Cafe to break the law, infringe anyone's rights, harass people, or spam. If you believe something on the site infringes your rights, contact legal@luar.cafe.
• Explicit material is not allowed in usernames, avatars, bios, work covers, work descriptions, comments, and similar surfaces. This does not mean works of fiction posted to the site cannot address sexual themes or contain violence, but it should not appear outside chapter bodies and should be properly labelled and tagged.
• User and author content does not reflect the views or opinions of Luar Cafe staff, and works of fiction may not reflect the views or opinions of the author.
• Content on Luar Cafe is user- and author-generated; use your own discretion when choosing whether to use the site or what content to consume.
• We reserve the right to remove content from the platform if necessary for legal or safety reasons. Repeated malicious actions may result in bans.
• Trying to scrape, overload, exploit, or otherwise break Luar Cafe with malicious intent will result in a ban. For the altruistic, if you are aware of a specific issue contact security@luar.cafe.

The service itself

We work to keep Luar Cafe fast and reliable, but we provide it "as is": we can't promise perfect uptime or an absence of mistakes, and, to the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for losses that come from using the site. Keep copies of work that matters to you.

Leaving, and changes to these terms

• You can close your account at any time.
• If these terms change, we'll publish the new version, show you what changed, and ask you to accept it. Every past version is available at /legal/terms.
