Author Terms

These terms apply when you publish works on Luar Cafe. They add to the Terms of Service, which still applies.

Your works are yours

• You retain every right to your works, pseudonyms, and author profiles. We claim no ownership of them and no rights beyond the permission—described in the Terms of Service—to store your work and show it to the readers you've chosen to share it with.
• You choose and declare the license for each work.

Declaring your work's rights

Before a work's first chapter goes live, you declare what it is:

• Fanwork—fiction derived from someone else's characters or world. Fanwork is always free to read and can never be monetized on Luar Cafe.
• Original, all rights reserved—your own work; you keep every right.
• Original, open license—your own work, shared under the Creative Commons or CC0 license you pick. Open licenses are irrevocable: once a chapter is published under one, that grant can't be taken back. This does not change Luar Cafe's right to your work; it will still be removed if requested.

Fanwork and original works can't share a pseudonym. You can keep them under separate pen names, managed from your single account.

When you publish, you certify that your declaration is legally accurate and, where claimed, that you own the rights in question. The declaration locks once the work's first chapter is live; if you made a genuine mistake, contact legal@luar.cafe.

If you close your account

We may keep your author profile, account, and works for up to one year after closure, solely so we can restore them if the closure was accidental or malicious. If you wish to hasten this timeline, please contact support@luar.cafe.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, we'll publish the new version and ask you to accept it the next time you publish. Every past version is available at /legal/author-terms.
